I missed Thursday’s post this week, so there will be a new comic on Saturday which hasn’t happened in a while. Sorry for those of you looking and wondering if there was something wrong with your reader. Nope, it was just me, your absent minded cartoonist.
To help celebrate Spud Comics third anniversary, I’ve decided to come up with a contest. It’s pretty easy. All you have to do is tell me your three favorite Spud Comics out of the 643 posted so far. You can look through the Old Spuds or hit the Random Comic button up there at the top right. Send them to me by title. You can either email them to me, tweet them, Facebook message, Google + message, comment here, or whatever. I just have to be able to contact you back. And one entry per person please.
The winner will be randomly selected from ALL entries. He or She will win a signed copy of Spud Salad and a hand-drawn original of one of their favorite Spud Comics. Sound good? Then send in your lists already. The contest will end Christmas day!
Some of you may have noticed there was no Spud Comics website most of the day today. Well, after a lot of programming and complicated computer tinkering (i.e. renewing the domain name) I was able to bring it back! And just in time too. Today is the 3rd anniversary of this silly thing that I hope has put a smile on your face once or twice since 2008. After 641 comics, it’s had it’s ups and downs (like anything else) and I’m glad you all have stuck by me through all of it!
There are a lot of ways to support Spud Comics that are totally free. You can follow me on Twitter, Facebook or Google +, leave comments here, share posts with your friends, and now you can even subscribe through your own email. Believe me, all of this helps and is more valuable than you might realize.
Thanks again for reading and making it part of your daily routine. I truly hope you can stick around for another three.
Hey, subscribers! I’m aware that the RSS feed is showing double posts of the comic, and I’m trying to work it out. I appreciate your patience. I’ve got a crack team of engineers sorting through this annoying problem (not really, but it sounds cool). Thanks!
Please help support the release of this documentary by going to this site and making a pledge:
Presenting the all new Spud Comics collection: Spud Salad! 104 pages of the best cartoons from this very website. I’ve been putting this book together for over a year and trying to get it available at an affordable price. Which is why I’m happy to say that right now, you can get it for just $9.99 (plus shipping, of course). Click on the Spud Shop tab at the top or you can buy direct from here. I’ll also have them available at the shows and conventions I’m planning to attend next year. Stay tuned!
I know it’s been awhile since there were new comics posted. But there’s good news! I’m building up a buffer! For those of you not in the know, a “buffer” is webcomic slang for a stockpile of cartoons yet to post so the cartoonist can create even more in the hopes that there will be a seamless stream of hilarity to follow. I want to thank you all yet again for your patience. I also want to welcome all the new Facebook fans. Thanks for signing up. I want to make sure you won’t regret it!
That’s right, I’m going to attempt to post 100 new Spud Comics for 100 days in a row, including Saturdays and Sundays. So from now until November 16, you can expect a new cartoon from me EVERY single day. This is just my way of paying back the folks who have stood by me when things got a little rough around here a couple of months ago.
Thanks for continuing to read and I hope you enjoy the ride!
Alright. Let me tell you what’s going on…
As faithful readers may know there’s been some upheaval around Casa Spud lately. In the last month alone, my family suffered a very personal loss, I’ve taken on a new full time (and time-consuming) job and the site itself was attacked by hackers. This is why it has been whole weeks without a Spud Comic.
What really pisses me off about all of this is last week I attempted the comeback, and promised a non-stop stream of new comics. What I didn’t know however was that the site had been hacked during my absence. Some assholes have been attacking WordPress powered sites hosted by GoDaddy, and mine was one of them. I had to take down everything for several days until GoDaddy and I could straighten everything out.
The situation (for now) is under control. The servers, accounts and databases have all been restructured with extra layers of security. Barring any other emergency, you should now expect to get a new comic on schedule, including some Saturdays.
Okay! Enough excuses! Time to move forward. I hope we can put all this crap behind us and you’ll continue to add Spud Comics to your daily routine.
Well, here it goes. You were probably wondering where Saturday’s comic was. Let me tell you, this weekend was a doozy. In addition to the part-time job I mentioned in the previous blog post, there were also some household emergencies to take care of (broken washing machine, stopped up kitchen drain, fourth grade diorama project for my daughter, in case you’re wondering). For a man who has been laid off from a regular paying job since July 2009, I am busier than I’ve ever been in my life.
Which is what leads me to this next paragraph: I’m afraid I’m going to have to trim Spud Comics back to 5 days a week. With all these additional stresses that take priority, I’ll have to push some things to the backseat. As much as that pains me.
Another hurtful part of this is I just haven’t had the time to visit my old haunts, Twitter, Facebook and the Comments. The absolute best part of drawing a daily comic has been meeting LOTS of great people. Not just fellow cartoonists, but the fans of webcomics themselves. I have no intention of leaving and I don’t want you wonderful people to think I’m ignoring you, and I promise to catch up whenever I find a free moment.
This isn’t all bad though. I started Spud Comics over a year ago as a 5-day-a-week comic. I added the extra day due to popular demand, and believe me, I would do 7 days if I could.
Perhaps when things get back on track and somewhat normal (I’m a father of 3, who am I kidding, right?) then maybe I can go back to knocking this out of the park on a 6-day or 7-day basis. Please know that I can’t thank you enough for all of the support and compliments I’ve gotten from you these past few months. Again, this isn’t the end, and if you can bear with me for awhile, I promise the best is yet to come.
