Becoming a Statistic
I try to not let my personal life spill over into my webcomic here, but I wanted to share with you, my increasing readership, that I have just been laid off from my full time gig as a graphic artist. It’s a story I know you’re hearing everywhere everyday. However, I am not depressed about this, nor am I going to give you another sob story. This is an entertainment site and that is all I want to do: entertain you and make you laugh. Just bear with me for a moment.
I do not look at Spud Comics as a hobby. Since I was four I knew I wanted to draw for a living. This is a step into realizing that dream. I know it can be a daunting task. There are so many talented people out there trying to accomplish this same goal. I just hope you count me in with these folks.
This website is not going anywhere. I will still try to bring the funny Monday through Friday just like I’ve been doing since November of last year. All I ask is that you come by everyday and tell your friends. Sure I have some t-shirts for sale and I’ve added the “Buy Me a Beer” tip jar, but even if you just subscribe to the rss, comment, or follow me on Twitter, that’s more than enough to show your support for these silly drawings in square boxes.
OK, that’s it, now you know what’s going on behind the scenes. Thank you again, and I’ll see you tomorrow.

Hang in there, Lonnie! I know you’ll end up on your feet, either as a full time cartoonist or landing a gig at another design house. Power to the ‘toonists!

Hey Lonnie – sorry to hear about that. We went through the experience a couple months ago ourselves. Hang in there! I’ll keep my eyes & ears open for you

Lonnie, your comics always make me smile. I hope Spud Comics really takes off for you. I think it’s one of the best new strips I’ve come across! Let’s spread the word and get some new Spud Fans!

Good on ya for keeping a positive outlook, Lonnie. You should. I would not be surprised if I were in your shoes in the fairly near future, and should I be, I will also be looking at it as a door opening rather than one closing. I understand and share your desire to draw for a living, and perhaps this will be a big step for you towards doing so! I’m sure you’ll do well!

I love your comic. Maybe you just need to wait for your big break…?
But anyway, I hope you find a job soon. I know, it’s hard. But you’ll find something

You probably already are looking into this but the stuff you do is perfect for the greeting card market.

Thank you, everyone. Your thoughts and kind words offer me so much hope. Even though I do not know most of your faces, I like to think you’re my good friends. Thanks again for the encouragement!
