What a Christmas!

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

It is amazing how this holiday season is going! I can’t think of another Christmas when everyone has been so nice and in the spirit. I know it all sounds hokey and cheesy, but it’s been hard to be a Grinch this past week.

It all started on the 23rd. I took my wife and daughter to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. The show was awesome, especially the second “act”, but it was the trip to McDonalds afterward that was noteworthy. We decided to stop there after the show to get some drinks. I ordered in the drive-thru and when we got to the window, the cashier said, “Your drinks will be coming up soon, but I want you to know the car in front of you paid for your order and said ‘Merry Christmas’.” Needless to say we were stunned. I don’t think I’ve ever been on the receiving end of a random act of kindness. I thought about returning the favor for the other car behind us, but the McDonalds employees wouldn’t give me the chance.

The second odd, happy occurrence happened Christmas morning. My kids were up at 3:30 am, but at around 7, my son comes into the bedroom and tells us that Santa left a present on the back porch. He heard a noise, thinking it was his aunt and uncle, but saw nothing but the wrapped box. He and the other kids opened it in our bedroom and proclaimed “It’s a Wii!” I’m thinking, no way. Who would give this to us? But, indeed there was a new Nintendo Wii under the wrapping paper. The note read:

I made it to Germantown to leave gifts for the Easterly family and realized that I had forgotten a gift for the Easterlings. I didn’t want to push my luck and come in the house twice.

Merry Christmas: Santa C.

This mysterious gift did not come from the aunt and uncle. It did not come from me and my wife. In fact, the only person we could think of was Santa Claus. And that, my friends, is truly a Christmas miracle.

I also want to let you know that you have been a big part of my amazing Christmas. I have been receiving lots of kind words about the comics and the website in general and it means a lot to me! Keeping this in mind, I’m making it a top priority to bring you only my best and hope you continue to visit here every weekday. Thanks again, and have a wonderful New Year!
